How affiliate marketing works on this site

An affiliate link is a special URL that tracks a purchase back to the site that referred you. When you click an affiliate link on After My Fees and complete a purchase within the partner's tracking window (usually 30 to 90 days), we receive a small percentage of the sale as a commission.

You pay the exact same price as you would if you'd typed the URL into your browser directly. The commission is paid by the company to us out of their marketing budget. They consider this cheaper and more effective than paid advertising because we have a relationship with our audience.

This is how the site stays free. Every article is available without a paywall, the calculator is fully functional with no premium tier, and we don't run banner ads or pop-ups. Affiliate commissions support the work.

Programs we participate in

We currently participate in the following affiliate programs:

• Printful, a print-on-demand fulfillment provider commonly used by Etsy sellers

This list will expand as we join additional programs. Programs likely to be added in the near future include other print-on-demand providers, Etsy SEO tools (such as eRank or Marmalead), and bookkeeping software relevant to small sellers (such as FreshBooks or Wave Accounting).

How we choose what to recommend

The criteria, in order:

1. Does the product or service genuinely help the reader? If not, no link, no exceptions.
2. Is it the best option, or at least a strong one, in its category? We will not recommend a worse product because it pays a higher commission.
3. Have we tested it ourselves or verified it through credible sources? We do not link to products we have not researched.
4. Is the commission structure reasonable and aboveboard? Some affiliate programs have predatory terms. We avoid those.

The commission rate is a tiebreaker between equally good options, not a primary factor. If two products are equivalent and one pays better, we will use the one that pays better. If one product is clearly superior, we recommend it even if its affiliate program pays less, or even if it does not have an affiliate program at all.

Editorial independence

The calculator, the underlying math, and the analytical content on this site are completely independent of affiliate considerations. The fee calculations, profit math, and category-by-category analysis are based on Etsy's published fee structure and our research, not on what produces affiliate revenue.

If we recommend a product we have no affiliate relationship with, that recommendation is genuine. If we have an affiliate relationship with a competitor that we do not recommend, we are choosing the better product over the higher commission.

How disclosures appear

You will see disclosures in three places:

1. Inline within articles. Where affiliate links appear in the body of an article, an inline notice indicates that the link is an affiliate link. This is the disclosure closest to the link itself.
2. In the footer of every page. The footer links to this disclosure page from anywhere on the site.
3. On this page. The full list of programs and our policy.

This approach follows the Federal Trade Commission's guidance on clear and conspicuous disclosure.

Your choice

You are never required to use our affiliate links. If you prefer to research and purchase a product directly without contributing to the site, that is perfectly fine. The calculator is free, the articles are free, and they will remain free regardless of whether you ever click an affiliate link.

If you do choose to use our links, we appreciate it. It is the simplest way to support the site without paying anything extra yourself.
